Temporary sharing makes files available for a limited window instead of turning every transfer into a permanent folder. A creator uploads files or notes, gives recipients access, and sets an expectation that the material should be downloaded before the window closes. Free-room content is removed at expiry; premium rooms first receive a protected renewal window equal to 10% of their reserved duration. This differs from cloud storage, where folders often remain until someone removes them.
When temporary rooms are the right fit
Temporary rooms work best when the file has a short operational purpose: a support screenshot, a design export, a classroom handout, a meeting packet, an event photo batch, or a quick client delivery. The room keeps files and text notes together, so the recipient sees the context and the assets in one place. If the material needs records retention, version history, legal archiving, or long-term collaboration, a permanent storage system is the better choice.
How LendAFile handles access
LendAFile uses room codes rather than account invitations for ordinary transfers. The creator chooses a code, creates the room, uploads files, adds optional text notes, and shares the code with intended recipients. An optional password can add another access check.
Expiry and storage limits
Free rooms support reservation windows up to 2 hours and premium time is billed hourly. Each file can be up to 2 GB, while a multi-file selection can total up to 10 GB when hosting capacity allows it.
