What temporary sharing means
Temporary sharing makes files available for a limited window instead of turning every transfer into a permanent folder. A creator uploads files or notes, gives recipients access, and sets an expectation that the material should be downloaded before the window closes. After that window, the room and stored content are removed. This is different from cloud storage, where old folders and links often remain available until someone remembers to clean them up.
When temporary rooms are the right fit
Temporary rooms work best when the file has a short operational purpose: a support screenshot, a design export, a classroom handout, a meeting packet, an event photo batch, or a quick client delivery. The room keeps files and text notes together, so the recipient sees the context and the assets in one place. If the material needs records retention, version history, legal archiving, or long-term collaboration, a permanent storage system is the better choice.
How LendAFile handles access
LendAFile uses room codes rather than account invitations for ordinary transfers. The creator chooses a code, creates the room, uploads files, adds optional text notes, and shares the code with the intended recipients. Anyone with the code can join while the room is active, and an optional special question can add another access check for transfers that need it. The workflow is designed for no-signup file sharing, not for replacing a team drive.
Expiry and storage limits
The room lifetime is selected during creation, with free rooms supporting reservation windows up to 8 hours. Uploads can support common files up to the configured 2 GB limit when the hosting environment allows it. Recipients should download important files before expiry because LendAFile is a transient transfer tool: expired room data is not meant to be recovered later.
Practical checklist before sharing
Use a short room duration when the recipient only needs a quick download. Share the room code only with the people who should access the files. Add a special question if the room contains private project material. Keep a separate copy of anything important. Tell recipients the expiry time so they understand that the room is temporary and should not be treated as a permanent source.
